 Small Finely Detailed   Fossil Fern Remains with display stand 

Small finely detailed fern remains. Small  area of silvery bark which can be seen  when turned to the light. On dark grey shale. The ferns are an attractive chalky white and although partial, has some lovely detail. The white colour occurs as a result of the oxidation and the mineral pyrophyllite. Some also have tinges of orange as a result of pyrite giving rise to this. Some have a shimmering delicate bark when turned to the light. Most of the abandoned coal mines are now difficult to access, and good quality specimens  are becoming scarcer and much harder to source. Once these are gone, they are gone  The fossil comes with an acrylic click and twist display stand.
Date: 300 to 308 million years old -Carboniferous

Condition: Although small, it has good detail and preservation . Fragile and  needs to be very carefully handled, due to being on a shale .
