Polished Septarian Half Nodule with Sparkling Barite Crystals, Display Stand and Black Gift Bag Natural Septarian half nodule .The central cavity is filled with tiny semi- transparent sparkling barite crystals. Barite or baryteis a mineral consisting of barium sulphate . The name Septarian is derived from the Latin word septum", meaning partition, and refers to the divisions or cracks that are typical of this sort of rock. They are generally formed in calcium rich clay which then hardens to form this type of limestone nodule, with the dark grey exterior. Over many many years, the rock contracts, giving rise to cracks, later becoming filled with water. Calcite crystals slowly then formed in the centre.
