The Septarian is polished on one side an left natural on other side. The name septum is derived from the Latin word Septum, a word used to describe the divisions of the heart of nostrils. The wonder of nature can be seen in these natural crystalline and rock divisions within the slice. The centre is a rich creamy yellow colour comprised of calcite, with a brown limestone surround . The interesting crackled lines are the mineral aragonite, formed out of calcite. The rock would have formed slowly, by a gradual process of water movement in shallow lakes. This very gradually caused layers of mud which dried out and became submerged under layers of sediment. The cracks filled with silica or calcite, which was a by product of deceased marine remains, and formed the yellow crystalline part of it you can see in the centre. In healing circles, Septarian is believed to help bring balance and harmony to the emotions. It is supplied with a click and twist acrylic display stand.
Date: Septarian nodules formed millions of years ago, during the Cretaceous, around the time of the dinosaurs.
