Rare Fossil Crinoid ; Traumatocrinus Hsuixi China
Rare to Acquire Fossil Crinoid ; Traumatocrinus Hsuixi China
Traumatocrius hsuixi ,Triassic, Guafing Formation, Xingyi, Guizhou Province, China; Plenty of fantastic detail on this rare to acquire specimen from China. A Crinoid was a marine animal, rather than a plant .This is a rare to acquire specimen -Lobilith or Crinoid bulb fossil. Crinoids or Sea Lillies" generally had a root system which held them to the sea floor. A small number of species actually floated with the currents rather than being actually connected to anything. As far as I can tell, this is a lobolith from a Scyphocrinites crinoid, possibly Elegans. The sac or lobolith would have been filled with gas , helping it to float. It enabled the crinoid to hang upside down and thus reach food matter, which would have given it an advantage over other crinoid species. .
Date: Triassic
Size: 30 1 19 x 2.5 cm 1.5 kg
Condition: The fossil has some very clear detail and preservation. Fragile so should be handled with great care
