Fossil Steinkern Gastropod; sp Lymnaea. Rare to acquire.This is a genus of small to large sized air-breathing freshwater snail; aquatic gastropod mollusk. Steinkern is the term used to describe the fossilized outline of a hollow organic structure, such as a skull or a mollusk shell, formed when mud or sediment consolidated within the structure and the structure itself disintegrated or dissolved. The fossil has been beautifully preserved and silicified and replaced with the mineral Chalcedony giving it a marble effect with areas of opacity on the underside. Supplied with a clip and twist acrylic display stand.

Provenance: Found at Betul in Madhya Pradesh, a Southern state in central India.

Condition: The gastropod is an attractive mix of browns and has been beautifully prepared and polished to reveal the silicified matrix. It has a little flat surface so can either stand on this or on the small acrylic display stand supplied.
