Section of fossilized tortoise bone ; Aldabrachelys Abrupta- The species occupied the coasts and cooler highlands of Madagascar as large grazers. The carapace was up to 120 cm in length making it one of the largest tortoises in the world. Endemic to Madagascar. It became extinct by 1200 AD. Has been dated to around 750 to 2850 years ago. There is some dispute to suggest that some survived up to 1500 and may have coexisted with humans. Supplied with an acrylic click and twist display stand and small information paper pictured
